Colin Larsen

Director of Orchestras

​Colin Larsen began his musical studies right here in Conroe ISD, starting on the cello at Mitchell Intermediate. He attended Oak Ridge High School where he participated in the Varsity Orchestra and JROTC. He then went on to attend Texas A&M University and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Composition. Prior to Grand Oaks HS, he was Director of Orchestras at McCullough JH from 2013 to 2018. In addition to teaching, Mr. Larsen continues to compose and perform music, having conducted the premieres of his own symphonic works with both the Conroe Symphony and The Woodlands Symphony, where he continues to play his cello when not conducting the Grand Oaks Orchestras.

Katelen Shuler 

Assistant Director of Orchestras

Katelen Shuler is a Butler, Pennsylvania native where she began playing violin in the 4th grade. She participated in orchestra from then on being a member of Butler School District Orchestras all throughout middle and high school. She continued her love of music studying Music Education at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. While in college Ms. Shuler was the concert mistress of the Westminster Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Titan Marching Band, and a member of the Westminster College Concert Choir. She also had the opportunity to be a part of various chamber ensembles. Throughout her musical career, Ms. Shuler has had the opportunity to perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and The Piano Guys. Both of these opportunities inspired her to build a career in music.
